Walter Bartels 08/13/1998 CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Walter F. Bartels, of Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Clinton, with military services by AMVETS Clinton Post 28. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Friday at Schmitz Funeral Home, Clinton, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Mr. Bartels died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at his home, after an extended illness. He farmed from 1949 to 1960 in Elwood and owned and operated Bartels Garage, Clinton, until 1983. He was born June 29, 1919, in Clinton. He married Lillian Hyde in 1946 in Clinton. During World War II, he served in the Army. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Rose Edmunds, Susan Hellweg, Rita Weispfenning and Deborah Kokemuller, and a son, William, all of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; and sisters, Alberta Ryan, Albuquerque, N.M., and Ella Humphrey, Clinton.
