CHADWICK, Ill. — Esther Schreiner Handel, 94, of Chadwick, IL, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Clinton, IA. She was born March 3, 1914, in Fairhaven Township, Carroll County, IL, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Eisfeller) Schreiner. She attended Oakville Grade School and was a 1931 graduate of Chadwick High School. She married Lloyd Handel on July 9, 1935, at the Lutheran parsonage in Mt. Carroll. She was a Cub Scout den mother, member of the Carroll County Cancer Board and organizer of the Chadwick Senior citizens, a member of First Lutheran Church in Chadwick where she was a member of the choir for over 30 years. She was a charter member of the Golden Rule Circle, which was organized in 1935. She is survived by her son, Gary (Diane) Handel of Fulton; two granddaughters, Amy (Steve) Lawson of Shannon and Reba Corbin of Clinton, IA; two great-grandsons, Micah Corbin of Clinton and Kendall Lawson of Shannon. She is also survived by stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and four nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lloyd, on Dec. 26, 1991; a daughter-in-law, Sue; sisters, Eva Doden and Lavonne Clevidence; and a brother in infancy. Services will be on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chadwick with Pastor Marcia Strahl officiating. Burial will be in the Chadwick Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the church. Memorials have been established in her memory for the Caroline Mark Home and First Evangelical Church. Arrangements by the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark. Death date: March 5, 2008
