CAMANCHE — Gertrude Adelia Birdsley, 80, of Camanche, IA, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Bluff Terrace, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Bobby, Robbie, Robin Rae, Kim, Melissa, Chris, Kim, Jason, Matt, Michelle, Tanya, Walter and Jessica. Gertrude was born June 13, 1927, in Camanche, Iowa, the daughter of Jess and Mildred (Archer) Simpson. She was a 1944 Clinton High School graduate. She married Hiram Birdsley March 18, 1954, in Clinton, Iowa; he died August 16, 2006. She had been employed in research at Clinton Corn Processing for 37 years retiring in 1986. Gertrude was a member of the Camanche Historical Society, Navy Mothers, Camanche Senior Citizens, the Senior Class Club at Members Choice Community Credit Union; she was very active with RSVP and Meals on Wheels. The past several years she was a very active volunteer in the community. She was one of the Clinton Lumber Kings #1 fans and she received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 1996. Survivors include her 4 sons, Robert (Jerri) Weber of Camanche, IA; Don (Lois) Rohde of Black River Falls, WI; Dan (Lee Ann) Birdsley of Clinton, IA, and David (Cathy) Birdsley of Camanche, IA; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother Philip “Buzz” (Janice) Simpson of Corydon, Indiana. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Memorials may be made to RSVP.
