CLINTON — Raymond J. “Nook” Kelly, 89, of Clinton, died Thursday, February 21, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton.Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Serving as pallbearers will be Samuel Kelly, Daniel Kelly, Greg Kelly, Brandon Kooi, Scott Kelly and Tim Shinbori. Honorary pallbearers will be Devin Kelly, Dennie Holverson, and Dick Kelly. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.Raymond James Kelly was born on November 1, 1918, in Grand Mound, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Pearse) Kelly. He married Nancy Ruth Bowers on May 31, 1943, in Las Vegas, Nevada; she died January 27, 2008.Raymond was a graduate of Grand Mound High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army as a master sergeant and post office supervisor.Raymond worked in the finishing department at DuPont for thirty years until retiring in 1979. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, played the saxophone and was the lead singer in the Gus Kelly Swing Band. Raymond is survived by two sons, Stephen (Cindy) Kelly of Camanche and David (Kathy) Kelly of Clinton; six grandchildren, Erin (Brandon) Kooi, Greg (Nadene) Kelly, Daniel (Esmé) Kelly, Nancy Kelly, Samuel Kelly and Devin Kelly; six great-grandchildren, Maddison, Logan and Kennedy Kooi, Mackenzie, Kaelan and David Kelly; one brother, Larry (Jo) Kelly of DeWitt; one sister-in-law, Irene Kelly of Naples, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his parents, and one brother, Robert.The family requests that memorials be made to Mercy Dialysis Unit.Online condolences can be made to the family by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.Death date: Feb. 21, 2008
