The Clinton Herald Monday August 22, 1994 p. 9 John F. Maxheim Jr., 83, of 3028 Tower Road, Clinton, died Saturday in Samaritan South. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Prince of Peace Parish, St. Irenaeus Church, with the Rev. Ronald Young officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Clinton Chapel, Snell-Zorning Funeral Home, where a 7:30 p.m. vigil service will be conducted. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Kabrick, Harold Dekker, Larry Subcleff, C. Sumner Wright, Earl "Pete" Cottral, Larry Straley, Dr. Ed Carey, Clark DePue III and Edmund C. Walsch. Mr. Maxheim was born Oct. 22, 1910, in Clinton, to John F. and Anna M. Matzen Maxheim. He married Elysbeth Oakes, Sept. 1, 1941, in Clinton. He was a 1930 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Tilton College in New Hampshire for two years, also the University of Iowa, and graduated from the U.S. Brewers Academy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a captain in the United States Army. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star and four Battle Participation Stars. He was employed as vice president of manufacturing for Central Steel and Tube, retiring in 1976, after 15 years. Prior to that, he was president of Maxheim Inc., for 20 years. Mr. Maxheim was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at the University of Iowa; and was a past president of the Clinton Country Club and the Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Susan) Carter of Westminster, Calif., and Mrs. Richard (Less) Kamieniecki of Stinson Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Young of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Death date: Aug. 20, 1994.
