The Clinton Herald Tuesday April 14, 1959 p. 7 Mrs. Bertha Smith, 82, of south of Sabula whee she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Albert Watters, died at 1:30 a.m. today in Jane Lamb hospital, Clinton, where she had been a patient since Friday. She had been ill 2 weeks. The body reposes in the Shadduck funeral home at Clinton where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Faith Lutheran church, Andover. The body will be taken to the church Thursday noon, Rev. A.C. Koengeter, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Smith cemetery. Bertha Bertram was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, April 11, 1877, the daughter of August and Henrietta Bertram. The family came to this country 80 years ago, settling near Hampshire, Ill. She was married to Dick Smith May 1, 1900. Since the marriage, the home has been made on the family farm near Hauntown. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Faith church. Surviving are 3 children, Mrs. Albert (Lizzetta) Watters, Kamm Smith of near Andover and James of Sabula; a step-daughter, Mrs. Louis Kawolski of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Addie Torling of Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Emma Barnes od Salem, Ore.; a brother, Louis of Chicago, and nieces and nephews. Preceding her were her husband, a daughter, a son, the parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
