SAVANNA, Ill. — Dwight L. Nicol, age 70, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, January 24, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29th, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Savanna. Reverend Philip Bigelow will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 28th, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Burial will be at the Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dwight’s memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Dwight Nicol was born July 21, 1937, in Beardstown, Illinois, the son of Albert and Ida (Nobis) Nicol. He graduated from Savanna High School in 1956, and attended Valparaiso University. Dwight married Barbara Rath on July 31, 1960, in Savanna. She died in 1973. He later married Janet Jessen on August 20, 1975, in Clinton. She died in 1994. Dwight worked at the National Bank in Savanna; he also worked for Clinton Corn and Fullerton’s Lumber in Clinton. Dwight was a member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended the weekly Men’s Bible Breakfast on Fridays. Dwight enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and hunting. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and University of Illinois Fighting Illini fan. Dwight was donor to the Iowa Donor Network. Dwight will be dearly missed by his sons, Bryan (Lisa) Nicol of Camanche, Iowa, and John Jessen of Fulton, Illinois; his daughters, Penelope (Terry Washburn) Nicol of Rock Island, Illinois, Carol (Hosea) Jessen Lee of San Diego, California, Jody Hehr of Alexandria, Virginia, and Jennifer (Marty) Weeks of Port Byron, Illinois; his brothers, Wilbur (Vivian) Nicol of Shannon, Illinois, and Lee (Clarice) Nicol of Savanna; his sisters, Muriel (Harold) Buck of Savanna, Joyce (Darwin) Goss of Warsaw, Indiana, and Shirley Ritchie of Savanna; his special friend, Virginia Leavens of Savanna; fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandson; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, one brother, Albert Nicol Jr., and one brother-in-law, Bill Ritchie.Death date: Jan. 24, 2008#
