The Clinton Herald Thursday July 14, 1904 p. 8 It is a sorrow stricken home, that of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Calnan on the Bluff road, where their son, "Bert," lies dead. The angel of death let from the soul from the suffering clay, last evening at 11 o'clock, and after an illness of thirteen weeks there was rest for the tired one. J. Albert Calnan was born in Clinton, and at the time of his death was 21 years of age. Receiving his education in this city, at the Clinton High school, he was later in attendance for two years at St. Mary's college in Kansas. For the past few months his health has been gradually failing until paralysis of the nerves became a settled disease, this being the cause of his death. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Harry and Charles, and one sister, Alma. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's church with interment in the St. Mary's cemetery. Although not yet of an age where he had made his talents known publicly, Bert Calnan was one of the brightest young men ever in attendance at the Clinton High school. His ready wit and clear brain were ever productive of the choicest efforts of word and pen. Possessed of a bright and sunny nature his friends were legion, and many people of the city mourn in sympathy with the bereaved parents and family.
