The Clinton Herald Monday October 29, 1888 p. 3 Mrs. Richard Bulger, a sister of Mr. J.H. Barnum, is very low, and the pearly gates, which swing on hinges of sorrow, are thought to be opening for her to pass to the golden city - Eternity.

The Clinton Herald Tuesday October 30, 1888 p. 3 Monday, after much suffering, the spirit of Mrs. Rachel Barnum-Bulger, sister of Mr. J.H. Barnum, passed peacefully away, at the residence of Mr. Thos. Adams, in the northwest part of Clinton. This devout Christian lady was born Jan. 4, 1830, in New Fairfield, Conn. In 1858 she came to Lyons, where her home had been the greater part of the time since, and where she had been identified with the Methodist church for the past 20 years. Some five years ago, while in Nebraska she was stricken with paralysis, which made her helpless until her final farwell to earth was made. She had been married twice. Of the second marriage three children were the fruit two of whom are laid in the Hess cemetery, and one, Frank, in the West. The funeral will occur Wednesday afternoon at 2, at her late home with Mr. Adams, and interment will be made beside the mounds of her children.
