The Clinton Herald Tuesday January 22, 1907 p. 5 Stephen A. Calnan died at the home of his brother, J.P. Calnan, Monday evening. The news of his death was received with sorrow by the many Clinton friends of the deceased. It came unexpectedly, although it was known that the deceased had been very ill. In search of health and strength, Mr. Calnan went to Hot Springs, Ark., a few weeks ago, after he had been taken ill of paralysis. The treatment did not prove beneficial, however, and he reached home at 12:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. He was unconscious when he reached the city, and remained in that condition until 7:40 o'clock in the evening when he passed quietly away. The deceased is survived by his father, Patrick Calnan; a sister, Mrs. E.E. Forbes of Washington, D.C., and four brothers; J.P., C.V., W.H., and T.H., all of this city. Mr. Calnan was born in Marengo, Ill., about 43 years ago, coming to Clinton in his early youth. He was in the grocery business for several years, and at the time of his death was a member of the firm of Calnan Bros., operating a grocery store on South Fourth street. A talented musician, popular, courteous, and a citizen of sterling worth and character, his death will be truly mourned. The funeral will be held from the Calnan residence, on Bluff boulevard, Thursday morning at 9 o'clock, with services at St. Mary's church.
