MRS. WM. HOLMES DIES SUDDENLY IN CALIFORNIA

Mrs. William Homes, 918 South Ninth street passed away Monday, July 9, at the home of her son, Earle I. Holmes, in Berkely, Calif., where she had been visiting since February 8th. Her demise was due to cerebral hemorrhage.

Anna Aurelia Scott Holmes was the youngest daughter of Albert Thomas Scott and Nancy Taber Lake Scott, and was born in Fall River, Mass., January 6, 1847. She came to Lyons with her mother when about two years of age; shortly after that her mother died. She lived with her uncle, the late Benjamin Lake, until August 18, 1868, when she was united in marriage to William Holmes. He passed away April 6, 1910.

The deceased had always resided in this city where she was highly respected as a woman of character. She will be greatly missed in the home and in Grace church and the woman’s auxiliary of which she was an active member. She was the first president of the auxiliary.

Left to mourn are three sons, Arthur L. Holmes of this city, Earle I. Holmes of Berkely, Calif., and Alfred S. Holmes of San Francisco, Cal.; one daughter, Mrs. H. A. Fay of Milwaukee, Wis., also one sister, Mrs. Eliza Bates, of Clinton, and six granchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete awaiting the arrival of Mrs. Fay, who is expected here today from Milwaukee.
