The Clinton Herald Saturday December 1, 1945 p. 8 Mrs. Helen Howes, widow of the late former Mayors R.N. Howes and Clinton jeweler and brother of the late former Mayors R.N. Howes and E.M. Howes, herself a native of Maquoketa and a former Clinton resident, died Thursday noon in her home in Los Angeles, Calif. Services will be held at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon in Los Angeles where burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery. Mrs. Howes had been ill about a month. Born Helen Sanborn, in Maquoketa, Mrs. Howes moved with her husband from Clinton about 25 years ago. Of her immediate family, a son, Benjamin D. Howes, Jr., survives.
