The Clinton Herald Saturday September 2, 1939 p. 5 Mrs. George W. Howes, 819 Eleventh avenue, South, died at 4 p.m. Friday in Jane Lamb hospital after a brief illness. The body will repose in the Bragonier funeral home where the Rev. J.B. Ackman, First Methodist church pastor will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Ida Chapman was born Jan. 1, 1867, near DeWitt, the daughter of James Laurence and Malinda Anne Chapman, pioneer settles who came to Iowa from the Shenandoah valley of Virginia in 1857. She married George W. Howes in Clinton, Oct. 17, 1887. They lived in Missouri Valley and Lake City, Iowa, and Deadwood, S.D., but spent most of their married life in Clinton. Surviving are her husband and four children, Ray L. Howes, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs. F.P. Schnitzen, Waverly, N.Y.; Robert C. Howes, Chicago, and Mrs. A.P. Thompson, Clinton. There also are three grandchildren, Ray. L. Howes, Jr., Paul R. Schnitzen and Jack A. Thomsen. Three children preceded her in death, Florence M., George C., and an infant son. Two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Siddel, Clinton, and Mrs. Alma McClure, Roanoke, Va., and a large number of nieces and nephews also survive.
