The Clintoon Herald Monday February 4, 1952 p. 9 George W. Howes, 87, of 819 Eleventh avenue. South, died at 3:25 a.m. Sunday in Jane Lamb hospital, where he had been a patient one week. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bragonier-Fay funeral chapel, with Rev. L.D. Havinghurst officiating. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. Mr. Howes was the last survivor of a family of 13 children. He was the son of Philip and Esther Waters Howes. He was born in Clinton Dec. 25, 1864. He spent all his life here except for a brief period when he lived in Deadwood, S.D., and Lake City, Iowa. Mr. Howes was a retired machinest for the Chicago and North Western railroad with 55 years' service in that capacity. His wife, who was the former Ida Chapman, died in 1939. Survivors are two sons, Raymond of Los Angeles, Calif., and Robert of San Gabriel, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Schnitzen, Waverly, N.Y., and Mrs. Armand Thomsen, Clinton; three grandsons, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons and one daughter.
