Anna Bedford Howes 1856 - 1936

The Clinton Herald Mrs. Anna Bedford Howes, 79, died at 5:45 o'clock last evening in her home, 319 Fourth avenue, South, following a heart attack. Private funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the home. The Rev. F. Halsey Ambrose, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, DeWitt. Mrs. Anna Bedford Howes was born Aug. 19, 1856, in DeWitt, the daughter of S.N. and Elizabeth Bedford. She was united in marriage Nov. 25, 1880 to Robert Howat in DeWitt, who preceded her in death. She was married Nov. 6, 1895, to E.M. Howes in Clinton. He died Feb. 9, 1936. Mrs. Howes was a member of the First Presbyterian church, and the only remaining charter member of the Sunoida club. She was also a member of Clinton chapter, 124, Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a son, Laurence Howes, and a grandson, Edward Howes, of this city; three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Josephine Irwin and Mrs. Lilian Christensen of DeWitt, Mrs. Adah Lineweaver and A.F. Bedford, both of Tucson, Ariz.

Mrs. E.M. Howes of Clinton Dies Mrs. E.M. Howes of Clinton, 79, sister of Mrs. G.H. Christensen of this city, died suddenly in her home last evening about six o'clock. Death was due to a heart attack. Private funeral services will be conducted at the late home in Clinton Friday afternoon at two o'clock and interment will be in the family lot at Elmwood cemetery of DeWitt. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Anna Bedford, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.N. Bedford was born in DeWitt August 19, 1856. She was married to Robert Howat, who died in March 1886. One daughter, Helen, born to this union died a number of years ago. Later the deceased was married to E.M. Howes, who died February 9 of this year. Surviving are one son, Lawrence, and a grandson, Edward A. both of Clinton. Three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Irwin, whoc has been making her home with Mrs. Howes, Mrs. Christensen of DeWitt, Mrs. Adah Lineweaver of Tucson, Arizona and one brother, Ashbel, of Tucson, also survive.
