The Clinton Daily Herald Tuesday November 25, 1884 A telegram was received to-day from Mr. E.M. Howes at Point Pleasant, New Jersey, stating that his wife had died this morning. This announcement was unexpected as deceased though in rather poor health was abel to be around and about September 1st left for a visit to her grandmother at Point Pleasant. Last week Mr. Howes received a telegram summoning him to her side, though a letter since received here stated that she was able to sit up during the day. Sarah Howes, the deceased, was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shafto, of River Park, and was known by nearly every one, having been born and reared in this city. She was a graduate of the High School - a member of the class of '74 - taught school for several years and was married to Mr. E.M. Howes on the eleventh day of June, 1879. She was 27 years of age. The remains will be brought to this city for interment. The time of the funeral will be announced as soon as known. The bereaved husband and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the community in their sore affliction.

The Clinton Daily Herald Friday November 28, 1884 The remains of Mrs. Sarah F. Howes reached Clinton by the five o'clock express Thursday afternoon, accompanied by the bereaved husband, and her mother, Mrs. Shafto. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon with services at two o'clock at the residence of Mr. E.M. Howes, 414 Seventh avenue, conducted by Rev. C.A. Marshall.
