The Clinton Herald Tuesday March 25, 2003 p. 9A James Albert Mallicoat, 87, of Morrison and formerly of Camanche, died at the Pleasant View Home in Morrison on Monday. Services will be at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home and Crematory at 11 a.m. Thursday. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Garden, Moline, Ill. Pallbearers will be Chris Mallicoat, Ron Mallicoat Jr., Steve DeLaRosa, Todd DeLaRosa, Nathan Jones and Andrew Moreno. He was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Wyoming, Iowa, to Russell and Hazel Smith Mallicoat. He married Jeannette F. Barker on Oct. 30, 1935, in Dixon, Ill. He was educated in the Wyoming schools. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor and truck driver with Carstensen Freight Lines for more than 40 years before retiring in 1978. He was a former member of the Camanche Masonic Lodge 60, the KAABA Shrine, the Horse Troop, the Royal American Shrine Club and the Gyro Club where he was a past president. In February 1951, he was honored as driver of the year by the Iowa Motor Truck Association. On April 12, 1951, he received the American Trucking Association Pro Meritis Citation for his safe driving record dating from 1934 and for his heroic actions in rescuing four motorists whose car was overturned in a creek near Aurora, Ill., on Dec. 5, 1950. Survivors include his wife; one son, Ron (Mary Lou) Mallicoat of Clinton; one daughter, Mrs. JoAnne (Mark) DeLaRosa of Moline; 21 great-grandchildren; one one brother, Lee Roy Mallicoat of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son and a daughter-in-law and one brother. Death date: March 24, 2003.
