The Clinton Herald Friday December 2, 1927 p. 6 Funeral services for Mrs. J.Q. Jefferies, 710 South Bluff boulevard, who passed away early yeaterday evening at the Mayo institute in Rochester, Minn., will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon in St. John's Episcopal church, following a short service for the family to be held at the late home. Interment will be in Oakland cemetery. Those desiring to view the body may do so at the home preceding the services, s the casket will not be opened at the church. Bringing the body of their beloved wife and mother, Mr. Jefferies and daughter, Mrs. J.A. Durrenberger, the latter, nee Miss Frances Jefferies, now of New York city, arrived here early today from Rochester. They had been constant attendants at the bedside of Mrs. Jefferies, during her illness and at the time of her death. The illness and death of Mrs. Jefferies came as a distinct shock, not only to the family, but to the hundreds of friends of both Mr. and Mrs. Jefferies in Clinton and throughout this section and today members of the family were receiving the heartfelt sympathy of large numbers of those friends. Mrs. Jefferies, nee Miss Clara F. Sanborn, was born January 10, 1965, the daughter of Daniel and Frances Sanborn, in Door county, Wis., where she received her early education and for a time taught school, later entering training in the Sanitarium at Battle Creek, Mich., from which institution she graduated and came to Clinton about 40 years ago. She practiced her profession here until December 9, 1897, when she was united in marriage with John Q. Jefferies. To this union were born two children, Ruth Warren, who died March 29, 1900, and Frances Elizabeth, now Mrs. Durrenberger of New York city. Devoting her energies to her home life and to her family, Mrs. Jefferies was not only an ideal wife and mother, but she found time, also, for interests in church and fraternal circles and in neighborliness. She was an ardent and beloved member of St. John's Episcopal church and of Clinton chapter, 65, Order of the Eastern Star, and could always be counted upon to take her full share of all responsibilities. Mr. and Mrs. Jefferies motored to Excelsior Springs on October 23, for a three weeks' vacation and incidentally for treatment for minor ailments. Mrs. Jefferies became ill during the first week and despite the efforts of the best physicians of the place, her condition became steadily worse. She was brought back to Clinton and received treatment in Jane Lamb hospital, where Clinton physicians were able to allay the minor complaints but discovered symptoms of a brain tumor. To afford her the most skillful attention possible, she was taken to the Mayo institute in Rochester, November 25, and placed under the the direct attention of Dr. Adson, reputed to be one of the leading brain surgeons of the world. Before a clinic could be completed, however, her condition became so grave that Dr. Adson decided on emergency operation to be the only chance and at 11 o'clock Monday morning a delicate operation was performed. For a time she seemed to rally but at midnight the heart action became weak and she passed peacefully away at 1:45 o'clock yesterday morning, December 1. Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. Durrenberger, who came from her home in New York, November 16, and had been at her mother's bedside with her father constantly thereafter. Mrs. Jefferies leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Lyle M. Jefferies, and four grandchildren, Joseph Warren Durenberger and Florence, Margaret and Lyle, Jr. Jefferies.
