William E. Whitney 1861 - 1928

The Clinton Herald Monday January 16, 1928 p. 3 Charles E. Whitney, aged 66 years, a resident of Clinton during the larger portion of life, died at Jane Lamb hospital at 5:15 o'clock last night, following a protracted illness. Funeral services are to be held at the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. H.E. Harned, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating. Interment will be in Springdale cemetery. Mr. Whitney was born April 23, 1861, in Owassa, Mich., the son of William J. and Sarah E. Whitney. He came to Clinton with his parents when he was a child but at the age of 6 years went to Columbus City, Iowa, remaining there until after his marriage to Clara F. May, March 15, 1883. To their union were born four children, Stella, Henry, Lula and William. The came to Clinton in 1890 and had resided here since. Left to mourn his death, among immediate relatives, are his bereaved wife, one son, Henry, and one daughter, Mrs. Harold Guernsey, Stella having died in infancy and William in 1918, in the World war. There are also six grandchildren. His brother, F.E. Whitney, preceded him in death, March 16, 1924. His death was the result of a stroke of paralysis, suffered September 15, 1927, from which he never recovered. He was a member of Robin Hood camp, 31, Modern Woodmen of America.
