Clara May Whitney 1865 - 1939

The Clinton Herald Monday November 13, 1939 p. 5 Mrs. Charles E. Whitney, 826 Third avenue, South, died Sunday evening in Jane Lamb hospital. The body will repose in the family in the family residence until 11 a.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the Snell funeral home where the Rev. H.E. Harned of the First Congregational church will hold funeral services at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Clara May was born Oct. 9, 1865, in Columbus City, the daughter of Henry and Lydia May. She and Charles E. Whitney were married March 15, 1883, in Columbus City. Mrs. Whitney was a member of the Congregational church and of the Americal Legion auxiliary and was Gold Star Mother. Surviving are a son, Henry Whitney, and a daughter, Mrs. Harold Guernsey, of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Charles and Jack Guernsey of Tucson, Ariz., Robert and Grace Guernsey and Clara May Whitney of Clinton, Fred W. Whitney of Morrison and William J. Whitney of Morrison and William J. Whitney of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, a son, William J. Whitney, and a daughter, Estella in infancy.
