Clark Chalker 1873 - 1950

The Clinton Herald Thursday September 14, 1950 p. 20 Clark Chalker, 77, former Clinton coal and ice dealer and a charter member of the Clinton Elks lodge, died Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Jane Lamb hospital after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held in Bragonier-Fay chapel at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. He was born in Clinton July 1, 1873, the son of George N. and Susan Lamb Chalker. He married Miss Dollie Thompson in 1921. She died in 1923 and in 1931 he married Miss Lucille Howes. Mr. Chalker was associated with his father in the George N. Chalker company, 915 South Fourth street, for many years. After his father's death the business was sold in 1920. He lived for nearly 70 years at 416 Eleventh avenue, South. Eight years ago he moved to an apartment at 423 Tenth avenue, South. He was a charter member of Clinton lodge 199, B.P.O. Elks when it was organized in June of 1900. He had been a member ever since and earlier this year was awarded a life membership in recognition of his service. He also was a member of the Methodist church. He entered Jane Lamb hospital following a stroke on July 21. Mr. Chalker is survived by three cousins, Mrs. Dale Melaney of Butte, Mont., Mrs. George B. Woodside of Savanna, Ill., and Mrs. Iva Lounabury, Lansing, Mich.
