The Clinton Herald Friday February 20, 1920 p. 8 George Nelson Chalker, aged 77 years last July, passed away at 9:50 o'clock at the family home, 416 Eleventh avenue, following a protracted illness with ailment incident to old age. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the late home, with Rev. H.C. Culver officiating. The deceased was born in Unadilla, Livingston county, Mich., the son of Otto B. and Mary A. Chalker, July 14, 1842, and lived on a farm until the Civil war called him into service. Mr. Chalker enlisting in Company B, 26th Michigan volunteer infantry, in which he served for two years and ten months, until June 4, 1865. Coming to Clinton in 1866, he was employed in the local sawmills and on February 1, 1870, was married to Miss Susan Lamb at Mt. Carroll, Ill. They went immediately to Flint, Mich., but returned to Clinton in 1872. Until 1887, Mr. Chalker was employed in the W.J. Young & Co. and C. Lamb & Sons saw mills, working his way up to engineer. In the latter year he engaged in the coal business and in 1890 added the ice business to his activities. Left to mourn his death are his widow and one son, Clarke E. Chalker, at home, and a sister, Mrs. Hannah Wilsey of Lansing, Mich. He was a member of Emulation Lodge, 255, A.F. & A.M., DeMolay consistory and of the Shrine, in Masonic circles, of General N.B. Baker post, G.A.R., Lincoln lodge, 42, I.O.O.F., and was a thoroughly patriotic American citizen.

The Clinton Herald Monday February 23, 1920 p. 6 Funeral services for George Chalker were held yesterday afternoon at the late home, 416 Eleventh avenue, with the Rev. H.C. Culver, pastor of the First M.E. church officiating. Miss Florence Bergendahl was the soloist. The body was placed in the receiving vault at Springdale cemetery until a later date. Those attending the casket were J.L. Bohnson, Herbert Smith, Frank Mattison, E.W. Thompson, Frank Benjamin and William Zingg. Friends from out of the city were Mr. and Mrs. George Piegje of McCausland and Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Burt of Savanna, Ill.
