The Clinton Herald Thursday January 17, 1901 p. 5 Lafayette Lamb, G.E. Lamb and Dwight Lamb were at Savanna, Ill., Wednesday, to attend the funeral services over the remains of Emory C. Lamb, a brother of the late Chancy Lamb of this city. Deceased was the father of Mrs. G.N. Chalker and Mrs. G.B. Sperry of this city, who also attended the funeral. In regard to the death of Mr. Lamb, the Savanna Journal says: "In the death of Emory C. Lamb Savanna and Carroll county loses one of its oldest and most highly esteemed citizens. He died at his home on Chicago avenue in this city at 3:40 yesterday afternoon. "Emery Lamb was born in Ester county, New York, Jan. 27, 1819, where he lived until he removed to this county in 1844. Coming to this county, he settled in York township, where he lived until thirteen years ago, when he removed to this city. He was one of the earliest settlers in this county and during his long residence here has drawn to himself scores of friends by his stability of character and general straightforwardness. In 1841, he was united in marriage to Miss Isabel Spencer at Benton, N.Y. To them were born five daughters, all of whom yet live to mourn the departure of a kind father. They are: Mrs. H.G. Carpenter of West Bend, Ind.; Mrs. G.N. Chalker and Mrs. G.B. Sperry of Clinton, Ia.; Mrs. A.B. Tomlinson and Miss Jo Lamb of Savanna. The last named has always lived with her father, and since the death of her mother, thirteen years ago Sunday, has been his only and constant companion. To these bereaved daughters we would particularly extend our sincerest sympathy. "Mr. Lamb has always been known as a man of much sound judgement and many good qualities. Those who knew him best are well aware of his genuine kindness and sterling integrity. This county owes much to these sturdy men who settled here in the early days before the comforts and luxuries which we younger ones enjoy. Through their efforts and untiring labors this section of country has been made what it is. Not only have the daughters lost a kind parent and efficient counselor and provider, but also, Carroll county has lost one who has always been associated with its steady growth and development. "Short funeral services will be held at the residence on Chicago avenue tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. D.T. Kahl, and the interment will be made in the Argo cemetery.
