Death of Mrs. Mace Bentley.

Our citizens were surprised Monday morning to hear of the passing away of Mrs. Mace Bentley, a sister of our fellow townsmen, J. E. and Royal Goodenow. Mrs. Bentley was well known in this city, where she had a host of warm friends, who deeply regret her departure, in speaking of her death, the CLINTON HERALD says:

“Mrs. William M. Bentley passed away suddenly shortly after 6 o’clock Sunday evening at the Columbia hotel, as a result of a stroke of apoplexy. Her death was entirely unexpected. Although she had been ailing the past few weeks it was not thought that she was in a serious condition. At 6 o’clock she sustained the stroke, and a few minutes later passed away. The news of her death occasioned surprise and deep regret among her wide circle of friends won during her long residence here."

“The deceased was born in Warren county, N. Y., sixty-eight years ago. She came to Iowa in 1846, making her home in Maquoketa with her husband until 1868, when they removed to Lyons. They resided there until last fall, when fire destroyed their residence; they afterwards moved from the south side to reside with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDowell. Surviving the deceased are her husband, her daughter, and a son, Leon Bentley, of Davenport."
