Gerhardt H. “Windy” Grantz, age 90, of Charlotte, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte with the Rev. Terry Ellis officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton and from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Rossiter Cemetery, Charlotte. Casket bearers will be Paul, David and Steven Schwartz, Kevin and Bob Brown and Luke, Scott and Wayne Grantz. Gerhardt was born on April 14, 1917, in Charlotte, the son of John and Melinda Voss Grantz. Windy married Marcella Heil on February 18, 1939, in Wisconsin. Windy and Marcella farmed the family “Century” farm near Charlotte. He had also worked at E.I Du Pont and drove trucks for Walter Sellnau and “Polly” Camp. Windy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He had been a member of the Clinton County Cattlemen’s Association. He loved playing cards, especially with his euchre club. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horse shoes, going to and following the Cubs and spending time with his family and friends. Windy is survived by his wife, Marcella; two sons, Richard Grantz of Charlotte and Dennis (Diane) Grantz of Goose Lake; a daughter, Julaine (Jim) Warner of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Rhiannon (Lee) Marshall of Coralville, IA, and Nicholas Grantz of Milan, IL; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Lois (William) Schwartz of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucille Brown. Death date: Dec. 25, 2007
