The Clinton Herald May 28, 1891 Died, at her residence Sunday morning at 7 o'clock, of pneumonia, Mrs. Daniel Hess, in her 70th year. She leaves a son, E.A. and two daughters Miss Elvira A., and Mrs. L.O. Hess Kerr. The latter is in California. Her husband and son Fremont prededed her to the heavenly land several years ago. The deceased was a native of Indiana. Her maiden name was Frances White. She was married to Daniel Hess in 1843, who at that time was post-master of Lyons. Afterward they moved on their farm which was secured before the State was organized, and is still held in his name. Mrs. Hess has been a consistent member of the M.E. church over 50 years, and her house was the home of the itinerant servant of God, when such men as Cartwright and Reed were breaking up the fallow ground of Methodism in the Territory. In fact the Hess families were the factors and top root in the organization which has grown so wonderfully in this section. The funeral will take place from her late residence on Seventh street at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with interment at the Hess cemetery west of Lyons.
