The Clinton Herald Wednesday December 5, 1962 p. 11 O.D. Collis, 85, of Breezy Point, died in his home late this morning. He had been in failing health for several years. At the time of his death he was chairman of the board of directors of The Collis Co. Funeral services will be Saturday with the hour to be announced later. The body is in the Snell Smith funeral home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday. Oliver Dallyn Collis was born April 16, 1877, in Hamilton, Ont., Canada, the son of George and Thurza Dallyn Collis. He married Carolyn Malcolm Cooke in 1898 in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Collis, who served an apprenticeship as a wood carver, wire worker and machinist, started a pattern shop in Dubuque with his brother in 1901. In July of 1912 Collis moved his factory to Clinton. He served as general manager and president of the company as well as president of the board of directors. He had been president and general manager of the Bald Mountain Mining Company in South Dakota, as well as director of the W.A.L. Thompson Wholesale Hardware Company, Topeka, Kan. Mr. Collis was a charter member of the Clinton Rotary Club and a life member of the club. He was also a life member of the Iowa Historical Society. He was affiliated with the B.P.O Elks Lodge 199, of which he once served as chairman of the board. Mr. Collis was a 32nd degree Mason and was affiliated with the York and Scottish rites. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Turners Society, of which he was a past director and he was a past president of the executive council of the Clinton Boy Scouts of America. In 1921, he was commodore of the Mississippi Valley Power Boat Association, and he had served on the board of directors since 1912.
