The Clinton Herald Wednesday July 11, 1973 p. 20 Sam L. Machael, 87, 818 15th Ave. S., died Tuesday night in Jane Lamb Hospital. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Snell-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. George Shiels of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the Snell-Smith Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Machael was born Jan. 22, 1886 in Morrison, the son of Louis F. and Lettie Ryerson Machael. He married Christine Larson. She died in 1967. He came to Clinton at the age of seven. He was a bookkeeper for Gabriel Lumber Co., for 31 years, and a bookkeeper for the Machael Oil Co., for 21 years. He was the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church, joining in December of 1897. He was active in organizing the old South Mission Church and Sunday School in South Clinton. He was a member of IOOF for more than 60 years and had held various offices, Emulation Lodge No. 255 AF-AM member for 50 years, and member of the Clinton Consistory and Kaaba Shrine. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Milton (Marian) Moss, of Lancaster, Calif.; sons, Eugene S., of Clinton and Harold of Maquoketa; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, and one son, Russell.
