The Clinton Herald Tuesday June 27, 1989 p. 10 A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Clinton Memorial Chapel, Clinton Memorial Funeral Home for John E. Barker Sr. 70, of 2500 Liberty Ave., who died Sunday in Samaritan South. The Rev. Francis Griffeth of Chancy Lutheran Church will officiate. The will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Barker was born March 1, 1919, in Welton, Iowa, to Andrew and Marie Nielsen Barker. He married Marian M. McGovern, Jan. 10, 1938, in DeWitt. He was educated in DeWitt schools and lived in DeWitt until the mid 1950s when he moved to Clinton. He was employed for Sanitary Dairy Farms for 33 years, until 1970, he then was a toll collector at the Gateway Bridge, retiring in 1982. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Mary Ann) Stewart, of Clinton; a son, John E. Jr., of West Point, N.Y.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Pearl Hesse, of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a brother.
