The Clinton Herald Monday March 13, 1911 p. 8 A telegram received by Mr. and Mrs. C.D. May, Monday morning, brought the sad intelligence of the death of Lucius M. Shoecraft, aged 41 years, at Pensacola, Fla., at 8 o'clock Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. May notified Mr. Shoecraft's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Shoecraft, 539 5th avenue, this city. It is not definitely known when the body will arrive in Clinton, but the telegram stated that R.L. Burchell and two daughters of Erie, Ill., will accompany the remains to Clinton. Funeral arrangements have therefore not yet been made. Mr. Shoecraft was born in Clinton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Shoecraft, and would have been 42 years of age on March 26, 1911. He was reared here and was educated in the Clinton public schools and at Mt. Vernon. For many years he had been associated with his father in the flour and fuel business in the Shoecraft building, Fifth avenue and First street. He was married to Miss Mary Burchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Burchell of Erie, Ill., who with one son, Robert, is left to mourn his death. For a number of years, Mr. Shoecraft had been ailing. He recently went to Pensacola, where he showed marked signs of improving health. Letters from him were full of hope, but late telegrams bore the news of a relapse. His death occurred at the St. Carlos hotel, where he was a guest. R.L. Burchell, father of Mrs. Shoecraft, and two daughters of Erie were with Mr. Shoecraft at Pensacola and was from Mr. Burchell that the telegram bringing news of the death was received. In addition to the wife and son, Mr. Shoecraft leaves his parents and one sister, Miss Letitia, to mourn his death.
