Harderson[sic] Child Drowns at Farm Home Near Here
Johnny Harderson, 2 1/2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Harderson, was drowned in the tank at the farm home six miles east of DeWitt Thursday, January 18 about six o'clock.
F.L. Moore, chief of police and Fred Hermiston, fire chief rushed to the home with the DeWitt recuscitator[sic] but every effort to revive the little fellow failed. Acting Coroner E.L. Martindale and Dr. Ralph Luse of Clinton were summoned. The body was taken to the McGinnis funeral home and Friday morning was returned to the late home where it reposed until Sunday.
Funeral services at the McGinnis funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock were attended by a large number of relatives and friends from Clinton, Low Moor and surrounding towns and vicinity indicating the interest and sympathy for the grief-stricken parents. The service was conducted by Rev. F.E. Schoenbohm of Zion Lutheran church, Clinton.
LeRoy Schoenig of Clinton accomanied by Mrs. Carl J. Smith of DeWitt sang "Under His Wings" and "Sometime We'll Understand." The pallbearers were four boys, William Henrichen, Gunther Schnack, Jim Jackson and Donald Dierks. In charge of the flowers were Dorothy and Elizabeth Schnack, Nancy and Janice Harderson.
Johnny was born September 15, 1942 in Jane Lamb Hospital, Clinton. Surviving besided the parents are the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hincke Dierks in Germany and a half sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Berner of Delmar.
