David J. Zaehringer, 70, formerly of Walden Place in Iowa City, died Friday at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. April 13 at the Trinity Episcipal Church in Iowa City. There will be no visitation. The body had been cremated. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Trinity Episcopal Columbariun. The Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Clinton to George and Cecelia McNulty Zaehringer.
He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Clinton. He received a bachelor's degree from Loras College and a master's degree from Columbia University.
For 50 years, he worked as a librarian at many institutions, including Stanford University, the University of San Diego, Columbia University, the University of California-Berkley and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He was instrumental in starting the University of Iowa Business Library in 1962.
He retired in 1996 from the Webb Institute in Glen Cove, N.Y.
He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include an aunt and uncle, Harold and Eleanor Jaeger of Clinton; and many cousins, friends and colleauges.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
