Meier, Marilyn (Don)

DEWITT — Marilyn (Mrs. Don) Meier, 83, DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday morning, December 8, 2007, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. She was born Marilyn Mathilda Schroeder, September 13, 1924, in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, to William and Marguerite (Whitman) Schroeder. Marilyn started school when she was four years old and was proud of being the youngest in her class. Marilyn graduated from Welton High School in 1941. On October 21, 1943, Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald Hans Meier at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The couple farmed at rural Grand Mound, until moving to DeWitt in 1966. Marilyn was employed by Clinton County Social Services as well as Pride Seed Corn. Marilyn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, as well as the ladies aid. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several card clubs. Marilyn loved to cook, especially for family gatherings. Surviving are her loving husband of 64 years, Don; children and their spouses, Raejean and Dr. Alfred Nunes, Dallas, Texas; Donna and John Ploog, Park View, Iowa, and Sherryl Mitchell, Seattle, Washington, Craig and JoAnne Meier, Elgin, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jody (Rodney) Harris, Jennifer Nunes, Jeff (Penny) Ploog, Jason (Rena) Ploog, Chris (Erica) Schwenneker and Jill Schwenneker, Joshua Meier and Amanda Meier; seven great-grandchildren, Erica, Robin, Natalie, Zach, Lauren, Cara, and Mara; a brother, Jack (Marian) Schroeder, DeWitt. Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents, a son-in-law, Steve Mitchell, a grandson, Danny Nunes and a sister, Marlys Ryan. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2007. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2007, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Dennis Arndt will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pallbearers will be Don Burzlaff, Wayne Whitman, Joel Hinck, Phil Holmes, Dave Frohwein and Ken Meier. Condolences may be expressed and a photo tribute viewed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.
