The Clinton Daily Herald Monday January 27, 1908 p. 3 A long and useful career was closed and an old and highly esteemed resident of Clinton went to his final reward when Patrick Calnan answered the final summons Sunday.. The funeral of the aged Clinton man will be held Tuesday morning from the home of his son, J.F. Calnan, in Highland Park, thence to St. Mary's church, where requiem mass will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's cemetery. The church service will commence at nine o'clock. Patrick Calnan was born in County Cork, Ireland on February 4th, 1828. When he was two years of age the parents removed across the channel and took up their abode in the city of London, where the son remained until the year 1852, two years after his marriage, which took place on January 12th, 1850. On July 29th, 1852, the couple reached the city of New York, where they remained for two years, before removing into the west. For a time they lived in Chicago, then came to the then little city of Clinton, settling there in the year 1865. In his 43 years in Clinton Patrick Calnan became widely known, and was always recognized as one of the city's most respected and valued citizens. For thirty years he was connected with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad company, first in the car department, and later, for many years, in charge of the "wrecker" and crew of the company on the Iowa division. Fifteen years ago he retired from active work with the company, on account of his advanced age. Had he lived until February 4th, he would reach his eightieth anniversary. Five years ago, Mrs. Calnan lost his companion of 53 years in life's journey, and there are surviving four sons, J.P. Calnan, P.H. Calnan, W.H. Calnan and C.V. Calnan; and one daughter, Mrs. E.E. Forbes who makes her home in Washington, D.C.
