Dorothy M. Tralau

Dorothy M. Tralau, age 92, of rural Baldwin, Iowa, died on Sunday evening, December 2, 2007, at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, December 6, 2007, from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Rev. James Chappell & Deacon Robert Head officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until Service Time on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Dorothy M. Kirk was born on June 28, 1915 in Jackson County, Iowa, to John Kirk and Edna (Hayes) Kirk. She attended a rural country school in the Otter Creek area and married Walter H. Tralau in September of 1949 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2004.

In her younger years, Dorothy worked in the home of Dr. John Jordan, a physician in Maquoketa, Iowa. She then became a farm wife and devoted her entire life to the management and care of the farm and her family. She often planted, maintained and harvested a large garden, sewed clothes for herself and others, and knit afghans for various people and functions. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa.

She is survived by: children- Bill Tralau of Baldwin, IA, & Carol Tralau of Cedar Rapids, IA; brothers- Jim (Mary Ellen) Kirk of Maquoketa, IA, Loren (Pat) Kirk of Dubuque, IA, & Charles (Madonna) Kirk of Bellevue, IA; sisters- Margaret Portz of Andrew, IA, Ann Phillips of Dubuque, IA, Carmelita (Ed) Portz of Andrew, IA, Rita Strubel of Vallejo, CA, Mary (Nick) Wathier of Arvada, CO, & Patricia (Clyde) Even of Bellevue, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, & four brothers- Francis, Bertram, John and a twin brother- Delbert, who died shortly after birth.

A Dorothy M. Tralau Memorial Fund has been established.
