The Clinton Daily Herald Thursday February 11, 1904 p. 6 William Marquis, one of the most prominent residents of Lyons, passed away very suddenly this morning at 9 o'clock at his home on Seventh street. The news of his death will come as a shock to his many friends in this city. As no one was in the room at the tme of his death the cause is not known, but it is thought that death was due to apoplexy. Up the time of his death Mr. Marquis seemed to be feeling quite well, having been down town yesterday. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. William Eakin Marquis was born Feb. 17, 1827, at Beaver, Penn., and had he lived until the 17th of this month would have been 77 years old. He came to Iowa in 1854 and worked at his trade of harness making at Camanche and DeWitt, settling in Lyons in 1859 and has resided here ever since. She was married to Arvilla Baldwin in the year 1869. At the time of his death Mr. Marquis was a member of the Baldwin Bros. Hardware Co., being actively engaged in business until his death. The deceased is survived by the wife, Mrs. Arvilla Marquis and three children, Charles B. Marquis, Guy F. Marquis and Lillian Childs.
