CAMANCHE — Jack E. Junck, 75, of Camanche, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007, at the Church of the Visitation with Father Richard Okumu officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Camanche VFW. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Following the services the body will be cremated. Jack Eugene Junck was born on December 19, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Herman and Marguerite (Porter) Junck. He married Barbara A. Perschy on April 30, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa. Jack was a 1950 graduate of Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953, serving in Germany as an I.B.M operator. Jack was employed with Swift and Company in Sioux City starting in 1950. After serving his country, he returned to bookkeeping, and moved through the ranks to accountant. He attended Morningside College from 1955 to 1958. In October 1970, he was transferred to Clinton with Swift and Company as controller until the closing of the plant in October 1982. Jack served on the Camanche Recreation Commission from 1972 to 1976, was elected as Camanche City councilman from 1976 to 1977 and served as mayor of Camanche from 1978 to 1979. From 1980 to 1983, he served as chairman of the Close-up Advisory Board, in 1980 he served as president of Camanche Days, Inc., and was the past president of the Camanche Chamber of Commerce. Jack is a member Church of the Visitation where he called out bingo for 13 years, a member of the Camanche VFW and served as a crossing guard for 11 years in Camanche at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Washington Blvd. Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara of Camanche; one son, Steve Junck of Camanche; two daughters, Ann (Jim) Ferrell of Camanche and Carol (Tony) Hunter of Camanche; three grandchildren, Christopher Ferrell, and Erika and Paige Hunter; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Phyllis, Elaine and his twin, Joanne; and one brother, Richard.Death date: Nov. 28, 2007
