Meier, J. Warren

CLINTON — J. Warren Meier, 91, of Clinton died Friday, November 16, 2007 at Mercy North. Visitation will be held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday November 18, 2007 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Services will be held at the former St. John’s Episcopal Church on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 11am. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Dawson, Paul Brown, Robert Brown, Jeffery McCumiskey, Lawrence Niebuhr and John Moreland. Warren was born January 26, 1916 in Madison, WI, the son of August and Emma (Wittwer) Meier. He married Rae Caruso September 3, 1945 in Buffalo, NY. Warren received his BS degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1938 where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his PHD from the University of Illinois in 1942. He was employed as a research chemist for Dupont from 1942 until retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Christ Episcopal where he was very active. He was a life member of the American Chemical Society and was a member of the Clinton Engineer Club. Warren was a quiet loving family man who enjoyed classical music, being outdoors and stargazing. His hobbies included skiing, bicycling, travel, and boating. Warren also enjoyed photography his entire life and created and edited his own films. Survivors include his wife, Rae Meier of Clinton; 3 daughters, Linda Rae (Robert) Brown of Atlanta, GA; Catherine Anne Good of Clinton; and Pamela Sue (Lawrence) Niebuhr of Eldridge, IA; 5 grandchildren, Paul (Heather) Brown, Susan (Jeffery McCumiskey) Brown both of Atlanta, GA; Christopher Dawson of Davenport, IA; and Alison Niebuhr and Elizabeth Niebuhr both of Eldridge, IA; 3 great grandchildren, Elijah Brown, Josephine Brown and Emmeline McCumiskey all of Atlanta, GA; 5 half brothers and sisters of Madison, WI, Harold, Martha, Marilyn, Herbert and Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Steven John and a sister, Alice Lumia. Memorials may be made to the Bickelhaupt Arboretum.
