The Clinton Herald Friday January 23, 1953 p. 15 Joseph Adler, 86, one of the organizers of the Clinton Labor Congress and father of the famed circus clown, Felix Adler, died at 4:40 a.m. today in his home at 537 2nd Ave. S. Funeral services are tentatively set for Monday, pending arrival of his son. Friends may call at the Snell funeral home beginning Saturday evening. Mr. Adler wsa the son of Joseph and Anna Evers Adleer and was born in Clinton Sept. 19, 1866. A carpenter by trade, he was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America A.F. of L., Local 772, for over 50 years, was a past president and had held many other offices. he was one of the organizers and an officer of the Federal Labor Union, now the Clinton Labor Congress. At the time of his death he was president of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Labor Temple Assn., Inc. One of the highlights of his life was "Joe Adler Day," observed by Clinton labor organizations in 1947. His wife, the former Nettie Nugent, to whom he was married Oct. 17, 1888, died in 1938. He was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle. Surviving are four sons, Walter, Edward and Vinall, all of Clinton, and Felix, with Ringling Bros. circus, now in Florida; and two daughters, Abbie and Theo, both at home; four brothers, William of Waltham, Mass., Frank, of Dana, Fla., Charles of Fort Meade, Fla., and Albert of New Jersey.
