Grimm, Mildred H.

DEWITT — Mildred H. Grimm, 93, DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully in her home Saturday, November 10, 2007.

She was born September 24, 1914, near DeWitt, to Bernhardt C. and Maria C. (Bahnsen) Peters. Mildred married Alfred H. Grimm, January 25, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa. They farmed in the DeWitt area until retiring and moving into town in 1971. While farming, she enjoyed making hearty meals for the farm hands. Alfred preceded Mildred in death June 28, 1979. During her later years, Mildred demonstrated her joy of cooking by making holiday meals for her family and baking homemade goods especially bread and buns. Her family was very important to her and she will be sorely missed. As a member of DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship, Mildred was a devout Christian who enjoyed her daily Bible study.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Daniel Passig, Rita Alys and Earnest West and Rose Ada and Virgil Meyer all of DeWitt; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 11 stepgreat-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice Peters, DeWitt, and Bernice Pompe, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, eight brothers, a great-grandchild and a stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will receive relatives and friends at DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007, and from 9:15 until 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Paul Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Terry Meyer, Roger Passig, Isaiah Reuter, Justin Reuter, Gaylord Rasmussen and LeRoy Wulf. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Walker and Bud Wieck.
