The Clinton Herald Friday May 16, 1980 p. 12 Benjamin J. Determan, 77, of 133 N. 5th St., died Thursday in The Alverno. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Joseph Kokjohn officiating. A prayer service will precede the funeral at 9:30 a.m. in Schmitz Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sugar Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Rosaries will be said by the Third Order of St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, St. Patrick's Parish at 4:30 p.m. Sunday and Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers, all grandsons, will be David and Dan Krogman, Rich and Mark Porth and Chuck and Gary Green. Mr. Determan was born Sept. 2, 1902, in Sugar Creek, to M.C. and Caroline Droste Determan. He married Veronica Fier Oct. 7, 1925, in Sugar Creek. He was a maintenance supervisor at Mercy Hospital for many years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, St. Edward's Council 707 of Knights of Columbus, Third Order of St. Francis and he was active in Boy Scouts, serving as a scout master for many years. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Jerome (Geraldine) Krogman of Clinton, Mrs. Ralph (Mary Agnes) Green of DeWitt, and Mrs. Richard (Betty Lou) Porth of Calamus; a son, Ben M. of Decatur, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Francis (Elizabeth) Ryan of Clinton and Mrs. Louie (Margaret) Skoff of Charlotte; two brothers, Oliver of Preston and William of Clinton; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
