Interment: October 24, 2007 at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, Iowa

Mabel Margaret McVay was born on October 30, 1914 in Monticello, Iowa, daughter of Delbert E. and Wilhelmina (Peters) McVay. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1932, and taught nine years in Jones County rural schools. She married Ralph L. Christiansen on June 9, 1940 at Monticello, Iowa. They were owners of John Deere Dealerships in Anamosa and Clarence, and Christy’s Jewelry in Clarence. He died on October 10, 1981. She later married John R. Jones, Sr. on February 20, 1993 at Pella, Iowa.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Esther Circle, Maquoketa, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles, and was known for her cookies and fudge making.

She is survived by her husband, John R. Jones, Sr., of Pella; one step-daughter, Barbara (Scott) DePenning, of Pella and one step-son, Jack Jones, of Maquoketa; 3 granddaughters, Katelyn, Elizabeth and Laura; one sister, Marion Barnd, Jordan, MN, a sister-in-law, Betty Lou McVay, of Clarence, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph, her parents, and two brothers.

Mabel M. (Christiansen) Jones, 92, of Pella and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Saturday, October 20, 2007, at her home.
