The Clinton Herald Thursday July 24, 1969 p. 6 Funeral services for Robert L. Atkinson Sr., 71, who died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Illini hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dailey funeral home in Port Byron. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery at Port Byron with lay member Keith Speckman of the Congregational church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today. Robert L. Atkinson Sr., was born on Sept. 23, 1897, in Rock Island, the son of Robert L. and Alberta Hussey Atkinson. He was married to Hazel Judd in Clinton on Nov. 11, 1919, and retired in 1962 after employment as a pipe fitter in Moline. He was a World War One veteran, past commander of the American Legion post of Port Byron, served for 26 years as clerk of the Port Byron township and recently was serving as trustee and secretary of the Oak Grove cemetery association. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert L. Jr. and Larry of Port Byron, Melvin of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Sallows of Port Byron; two brothers, Lloyd and Everett of Rock Island; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Smith, Mrs. Ivy Dahlstrom, Mrs. Iona Kerns of Rock Island, and Mrs. Violet Phillips of Moline, and 11 grandchildren.
