Victor Burken 06/10/2003 CLINTON, Iowa -- Victor P. Burken, of the Alverno Health Care Facility, formerly of rural Clinton, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Alverno. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Prince of Peace Parish, St. Boniface Church, in Clinton, with the Rev. Anthony Herold officiating. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Church with a rosary recited at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Meyer, Randy Burken, Martin Burken, Terry Michel, Richard Burken, Russell Burken, Jeffrey Trenkamp, Eric Holdgrafer, Adam Burken, D.J. Burken and Michael Burken. The Pape Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Victor was born March 18, 1914, in Sugar Creek, Iowa, the son of John and Katherine (Berding) Burken. He married Martha Feller on October 5, 1937, in St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Martha died on July 6, 2001. Victor and his wife farmed their entire lives in rural Clinton. He retired in 1984. Victor was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose and had served as president of the Hampshire Township School Board and as a trustee for Hampshire Township. He enjoyed his family, playing cards, dancing and fishing. Victor is survived by his 14 children, Dora (Mrs. Wayne) Meyer, of Maquoketa, Iowa, Jerome (his wife Janis) Burken, of Clinton, Loran (his wife Betty) Burken, of Clinton, Lois (Mrs. Elmer) Miller, of Pearl City, Ill., Leo Burken, of Spragueville, Iowa, Eugene (his wife Nancy) Burken, of Miles, Iowa, Earl (his wife Colleen) Burken, of Clinton, Judy (Mrs. Larry) Farrell, of Clinton, Marietta Trenkamp, of Clinton, Elaine (Mrs. Ronald) Holdgrafer, of Bryant, Iowa, David (his wife Kathy) Burken, of Clinton, Daniel (his wife Lois) Burken, of Miles, Donald (his wife Linda) Burken, of Clinton, and Anna (Mrs. John ) Lorenzen, of Bryant; 45 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Burken, at the Alverno. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
