Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa. SERVICES: 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. John Keppel, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa, officiating.

MAQUOKETA — Virlyn E. “Bud” Crist, 83, of Maquoketa, died Tuesday at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

He was born May 18, 1924, in Martelle to Emerson and Anna Goldsmith Crist. He married Evelyn Timm on May 14, 1943, in Clarence. He was a 1942 graduate of Clarence High School. He first farmed in the Oxford Junction and Clarence areas. He then worked with Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, did bulldozing for Bud Schaefer and then drove a semi-truck for the Mayflower Moving Co. for 13 years before retiring. In retirement, he became a landlord owning and maintaining several area rental properties.

Survivors include his wife; children, Marilyn (Gerald “Butch”) Edwards of Maquoketa, Rita (Garry) Schnoor of Baldwin, Richard (Sheryl) Crist of Maquoketa, Jan (Karen) Crist of Maquoketa and Jeannie (Scott) Flagel of Baldwin; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Donald (Aljean) Crist of Maquoketa; sisters, Maxine Gilmore of Maquoketa and Dorothy White of Grand Rapids, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
