Clinton Herald Friday March 19, 1976 p. 10 Dr. George C. Scanlan, 75, DeWitt, died Friday at Mercy Hospital, Clinton. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Church DeWitt. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanrahan Funeral Home, with the Rosary at 6 p.m. Dr. Scanlan was born in Lanesboro, Monn., Jan. 14, 1901, to Edward and Alice Redmond Scanlan. He married Winifred Mahoney June 1, 1927, in Omaha, Neb. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Creighton University Medical School and interned in Mercy Hospital, Davenport. Dr. Scanlan came to DeWitt in 1926. He taught at Creighton Medical from 1950 to 1953. He served at the Veterans' Domiciliary, Clinton from 1962 to 1964 and at the Iowa Veterans' Home, Marshalltown, Iowa from 1965 to 1968. Dr. Scanlan was a member of the Clinton County Medical Society and the American Legion. Survivors include his widow, a son, Joseph E., Springfield, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Flippo, San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Dave (Kathleen) Townley, Omaha; Mrs. John (Alice) Dolan, San Francisco. Mrs. Ronald (Lucille) Rothert, Maquoketa; one brother, John A. LaCrescent, Minn.; one sister, Veronica, Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
