Ruth L. Schmidt

Ruth L. Schmidt, age 88, of Clinton, Iowa, died on February 7, 2007 at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 10th at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday at Chancy Lutheran Church in Clinton. The Rev. Fred Schaur will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Robert Schmidt, William Schmidt, Richard Delever, Kathryn Delever, Shane Kimbrell and Karyn Kimbrell. Honorary casket bearer will be Sally Schmidt.

Ruth was born in Clinton on April 5, 1918 to Carl and Stella Owen Bolte. Her mother died days after Ruth’s birth. She was raised by Carl and his second wife Louise. Ruth graduated from Clinton High School in 1936. She married Edward M. Schmidt, also of Clinton, on May 31, 1940 in Louisiana. Edward died on January 28, 1988.

Ruth was a charter member of Chancy Lutheran Church in Clinton until she moved down to Davenport to live at Ridgecrest Village. She worked many years at A.C. Nielsen Clearing House in Clinton as a personnel secretary. When she retired, she and her husband spent many wonderful winters as “snowbirds” in Arizona. She loved to golf, knit, read, and be a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ruth is survived by her sons Robert and his wife Mary Schmidt of Clinton, William Schmidt and his partner Tim Hart of Davenport, a daughter Sally Schmidt of Bettendorf, granddaughter Kathryn (Richard) Delever of Wilton, granddaughter Karyn (Shane) Kimbrell of Lexington, NC, and great-grandchildren Zachary, Elizabeth, and Walker Delever all of Wilton, a brother, Robert (Bernice) Bolte of Camanche, IA, cousins, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, and husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, or Ridgecrest Village/Oakwood Place.
