Robert W. Blean

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday with a rosary service at 4 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie.

ERIE, Ill. — Robert W. Blean, 87, of Erie, died Wednesday at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Burial will be in Kingsbury Cemetery, Newton Township, Ill.

He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Newton Township to Miles and Mabel Stubbs Blean. He married Mary Hein on March 3, 1945, in Kingman, Ariz.

He graduated from Erie High School in 1937.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot with the 11th Fighter Squadron during World War II.

He farmed in the Erie area until 1974.

He served on many boards, including the Erie Public Library Board, Newton School Board, Erie Co-op Elevator Board and was a Newton Township trustee.

Memorials may be made to the Erie Public Library.

Survivors include his wife; children, Anne Farrell of Davenport, Michael (Marcia) Blean of Morrison, Ill., John (Diane) Blean of Pleasant Plains, Ill., Jo Ellen (Marshall) Vandruff of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Ted (Dawn) Blean of Geneseo, Ill., and Sarah (Marlon) Ray of Edwardsville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Jerry) Blean of Green Bay, Wis.

Death date: Feb. 7, 2007
