Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Moe, pastor of Savanna First United Methodist Church, officiating.

SAVANNA, Ill. — Charles M. Doran, 90, of Savanna, died Tuesday at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery.

Full military rites will be accorded by Savanna VFW Post 2223.

He was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Savanna to Charles James and Lila Bush Doran. He married Frances Welch on Feb. 3, 1945. She died in 1994.

He attended Savanna schools.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of the 101st Airborne, 503 Parachute Regiment. He had parachute training in Fort Benning, Ga., and was a member of the Static Line, Veteran’s Airborne Unit. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 12, 1945.

After school, he began his railroad career with the Bridge and Building Gang of CB&Q Railroad. After he served in the military, he returned to Savanna and was again employed with CB&Q Railroad, which later became Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired as a yard master after 43 years.

He was a member of the Savanna American Legion and past member of the Savanna Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; two sons, Jeffrey Doran of Thomson, Ill., and James Doran of Geneseo, Ill.; one daughter-in-law, Sally Doran of Moline, Ill.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
