Wendy Joan Michl

Wendy Joan Michl died on January 24 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis Oregon from cancer. She was 54 years old.

Wendy was born on March 8, 1952 in Moline, Illinois to Earl Diaz Esparza and Shirley Eloise Rasmussen. On September 12, 1974 she married Joseph V. Michl in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, Illinois. Joseph is a 1967 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Clinton.

Wendy attended Rock Island High School graduating in 1970. She obtained her Registered Nurse’s license in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1992. She had worked as a registered nurse at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, various hospitals in Texas, and as the school nurse for Rockdale, Texas Junior High School. She was a homemaker at the time of her death.

In addition to living in Illinois, Wendy and Joe lived in New Orleans, La, Pittsburgh Pa., Rockdale and Victoria, Texas, and finally in Corvallis, Oregon. She made many friends at all these locations. She followed Joe enabling his career at the sacrifice of her own. Her proudest achievement and greatest joy is her daughter Emily.

Wendy touched many lives and her profession as a nurse was her true calling. She nurtured and comforted many people and in her final days thought only of others — never being bitter or expressing self-pity. Her goal was to make her passing as easy on others as she could. Her life was truly well lived and she expressed no regrets. Wendy will be missed by all.

Wendy is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Emily, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and numerous nephews, nieces, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother David.

A visitation will be held at Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island, Illinois from 4-8:00 PM on Tuesday January 30. A brief prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM. Wendy’s funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, Illinois at 10:00 AM on Wednesday January 31 with interment at Rock Island Memorial Park in Rock Island, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers Wendy requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
